Significant Differences in Host-Pathogen Interactions Between Murine and Human Whole Blood

چکیده
Murine infection models are widely used to study systemic candidiasis caused by C. albicans . Whole-blood can help elucidate host-pathogens interactions and have been for several Candida species in human blood. We adapted the whole-blood model murine Unlike blood, blood was unable reduce fungal burden more substantial filamentation of observed. This coincided with less association leukocytes, especially neutrophils. The lower neutrophil number only partially explains insufficient control, as spiking neutrophils had limited effects on killing. Furthermore, increased survival is not mediated enhanced filamentation, a filament-deficient mutant likewise eliminated. also observed host-dependent differences interaction platelets , showing platelet aggregation, adhesion activation For opsonization shown decrease suggesting that complement factors interfere fungus-to-platelet binding. Our results reveal between infected thereby demonstrate limitations translatability this ex vivo hosts.

Using a training set of pre-annotated abstracts, the system can then learn how to efficiently discriminate between these two abstract types. Moreover, the same characteristic features can be calculated for the individual sentences in the abstract. Thus, we can use the same supervised-learning approach to solve Tasks 1 and 2. Finally...
متن کاملSignificant drug interactions in dermatology
Systemic drugs have been used widely in the treatment of many skin diseases. Although dermatologists are familiar with the guidelines of selecting appropriate patients and prescribing systemic drugs, their knowledge about the side effects and significant interactions of systemic drugs used in dermatology is more limited. So a short review on important drug interactions seems to be useful. Some ...
متن کاملArrestins in host-pathogen interactions.
In the context of host-pathogen interaction, host cell receptors and signaling pathways are essential for both invading pathogens, which exploit them for their own profit, and the defending organism, which activates early mechanism of defense, known as innate immunity, to block the aggression. Because of their central role as scaffolding proteins downstream of activated receptors, β-arrestins a...
متن کاملHost-Pathogen Interactions in Tuberculosis
My presentation will focus on host-cell pathogen interactions in tuberculosis. However, I would first like offer a brief introduction to the tuberculosis disease. I believe it is important to remember that merely an estimated 5-10% of individuals exposed or infected with the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria actually develop tuberculosis. In other words, the human population, as a whole, is e...
متن کاملPAK in pathogen-host interactions
Eukaryotic, prokaryotic and viral pathogens are known to interfere with signaling pathways of their host to promote their own survival and proliferation. Here, we present selected examples of modulation of PAK activity in human cells by both intracellular and extracellular pathogens, focusing on one eukaryotic pathogen, the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum, two Gram-negative bacteri...
